The 5 things that make nails look homemade

Five things I see constantly, what causes each one, and exactly what to do instead.

None of this requires my brushes. A brush that keeps its shape makes everything here easier, and mine are not the only ones that do.

What's in the video

  1. The cuticle line sits too far back, or floods. Float the brush, do not push it. Get closer than feels comfortable.
  2. The apex sits flat, or collapses. Build it with builder gel in the centre third of the nail, not edge to edge. Let it dome before you move on.
  3. The smile line takes five attempts. Start the curve from the outside in, and let the brush shape do the work.
  4. Corners come out rounded instead of sharp. Stop the brush completely at the point before changing direction. Do not pull through the corner.
  5. 3D work looks flat. Build in thin layers and cure between each one. One thick layer never holds its shape.
  6. Bonus: charms that don't fall off. Seal them fully in top coat, right to the edge. Half sealed is why they lift.
